Carbon Char Group begins warm season grass pyrolysis and carbon sequestration project
In this project Laine Farms will be working with NJAS to establish a new regional market for grass pellet biofuels utilizing native warm-season grass (WSG). This initiative will incorporate the benefits of planting WSG as not only a viable commodity crop, but also as having valuable natural resource protection and critical wildlife habitat applications. Evidence has shown that biochar effects on beneficial soil organisms can increase carbon sequestration (Nichols, K). In this project, USDA microbiologist, Dr. Kristine Nichols will be evaluating data on amount of carbon captured in biochar vs. non-biochar amended soil.
